Türkiye’s Barhion and Peker Shoes had similar beginnings. Both started as modest workshops whose handcrafted footwear attracted a highly appreciative, if limited clientele.
Today, they are large, dynamic companies with international clout and their reputation for fine workmanship remains intact – not surprising in the country famed as the gateway to Europe and Asia, and a fashion design powerhouse that has produced superstars including Hussein Chalayan, Hakan Yildirim and Arzu Kaprol.
Both Barhion and Peker Shoes will present their new season collections at the Footwear and Accessories Show Australia, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, November 21-23 – the latter company under its trademarked brand, Luis Mario.
Its Spring-Summer ’24 offerings for women should attract attention effortlessly. Crafted from quality leather, the range, from beach-going casuals to fetching party numbers, come in gelato colours as well as natural tones, both matte and metallic. The Peker look is classic, yet fresh and comfort is clearly a key priority.
Since its establishment over 30 years ago as a custom-made footwear specialist “catering to artists and famous individuals”, Barhion – part of the formidable family-run Duman Group – has grown into a global brand with stores in the United States, Russia and Poland, and a strong online presence.
A wide range of premium leather footwear for men and women, plus bags and accessories, offers numerous temptations, though the big standouts are the men’s classics – a truly fabulous array from immaculate oxfords and dress shoes to loafers – as well as Barhion’s super cool unisex sneakers.
Adding a further category to Türkiye’s offerings will be Agaoglu Textile, founded in 1950 and one of the country’s leading producers of bedlinens for private use – a large designer range in fabrics that include pure cotton, satin and flannel – as well as for hotels, hospitals and marine groups. They will be exhibiting at the Global Sourcing Expo, which is co-located with the Footwear & Accessories Show Australia.
Agaoglu Textile ranks as a key production base for major companies in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the US – in all, 28 countries – and is looking for new markets. It’s likely to succeed. Türkiye is renowned for the high quality of its cotton and ranks among the world’s top textile exporters.
Visit these exciting exhibitors from Türkiye on display at the Global Sourcing Expo and Footwear & Accessories Show on 21 – 23 October 2023. Registration is free for those in the fashion industry.
